Village weekend happens every year on the second weekend in July. This year's Village Weekend took place on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th July 2016.

Our theme,‘All the world’s a stage’, from 1616 to 2016, a celebration of all things theatrical on Shakespeare’s 400th Anniversary, was a great success.

Our 2016 events started with our "Wheathampstead's Got Talent" show on the Saturday. Congratulations to our overall winner Ria Boynton, dance winners Alice and Celia Foster, and singing winner Naharikan Bhakri.

This was followed by Picnic on the Meads with live music from the Harpenden Light Operatic Society, Revellers Steel Band, Band 7, and spectacular fireworks to close the evening.

Sunday saw the traditional colourful parade which started outside the Post Office at 1pm, went along the High Street, into Marford Road and onto the playing fields.

Deputy Mayor Gill Clark led the parade with the Hitchin Band and Kevin the Jester (on stilts!) into Marford Playing Fields where the Deputy Mayor opened the arena activities. These included a fantastic display by the Dog and Duck show, children and adult themed races, and displays by Top Hat Stage School and the fantastic Kevin the Medieval Jester.

On the fields were an array of stalls, drink and food outlets and other activities including an animal farm area and wooden games for younger children, and fairground.

If you are interested in taking part in any of our events or are able to give an hour of your time to help marshall over the two days next year please contact Louise at info@wheathampstead-pc.gov.uk.

Please note all commercial stall enquiries should be directed to the Wheathampstead Enterprise Group at chair@wheathampstead.org.uk.
