Sports Facilities and Playing Fields

A previous parish council placed our main playing field off the Marford Road in trust during the 1950s to secure it for the village as an open space for sport and recreation. The playing fields have two full-sized football pitches, an artificial turf pitch (ATP or 3G), the tennis club with 3 adult courts (one for non-members) and one junior court, and a play area for children and teenagers. They are a short walk from the Memorial Hall car park. Booking enquiries should be addressed to the parish office - see here for contact details.

Our newly installed artificial turf pitch (ATP) is the result of several years of fund raising and extensive consultation with residents.  The requirement came from our Village Plan, which identified the lack of all-weather facilities in the village and the winter training needs of the younger children at our successful youth football club, Wheathampstead Wanderers FC.  The ATP is open for casual use unless it has been pre-booked for a formal event.

Please note this is a sports faciltity for adults and children of all ages. It is not a place to sit and eat, take drugs, or drink alcohol. Bikes and dogs are not allowed on the pitch. Anyone that witnesses antisocial behaviour is encouraged to call the police on 101.

Hire of the ATP varies depending on usage throughout the year. For information regarding our hire charges and to hire the hall, please use the links below. In order to secure your booking, a booking form must be completed. You can send the forms via email at info@wheathampstead-pc.gov.uk, via post or directly to our office in the Memorial Hall between 9.30am-12.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Hire charges from 1st January 2019

ATP - 3G all-weather sports pitch £39 per hour
Marford Playing Fields (exc. grass football pitches) £22 per hour

In addition to the Marford Playing Fields, we also have football pitches at Folly Fields and Butterfield Playing Fields (off Old School Drive).

Marford Play Area has play equipment suitable for teenagers and younger children (from age 2). Teenage equipment includes a pod swing, a hip hop for spin and bounce, monkeybars and a cableway. Equipment for younger children includes a climbing wall with slide, roundabout, cradle swings and rockers. Please remember to supervise your children regardless of the age group for this equipment.
